Noah’s Second Chance

Age 7 – Liberty City, Miami

My son Noah fell into a canal when he was five. We were lucky that a neighbor pulled him out in time. I never wanted to feel that helpless again. H2O’s gave Noah free lessons and now… he swims better than me! He says he wants to be a lifeguard when he grows up. They gave us both peace of mind—and a future.

Ariana’s Smile Came Back

Age 9 – Little Haiti, Miami

Ariana was always anxious around water. After we lost a cousin to drowning, she was terrified. But her coach at the swim school understood her fear. They didn’t rush her. Now, she floats, she swims—and she smiles again. I’ll never forget the day she did her first full lap. She shouted, ‘Mom, I’m flying!’

From the Projects to a Pool Deck

Age 17 – Overtown, Miami

I grew up thinking swimming was for rich people or Olympic athletes. I never saw someone like me at a pool. The H2O’s Foundation changed that. They gave me lessons, then lifeguard training, and now I teach kids who look like me. I’m going to college on a swim scholarship next year. That’s something I never imagined.

We Thought Drowning Was Just Fate

In our community, no one talks about drowning prevention. We thought it was just a sad thing that happens. But after enrolling my 3 kids in swim classes through H2O’s, I realized—it’s not fate, it’s lack of access. Now my babies are confident in the water, and I tell every parent: this program saves lives.

Isaiah’s Gift to His Grandma

Age 12 – Allapattah, Miami

My abuela raised me and always worried I’d drown. She’d say, ‘Don’t go near the pool!’ But when I learned to swim through H2O’s, I invited her to watch my first swim meet. She cried. I gave her my ribbon. She said it was the first time she felt safe letting me be a kid.

Breaking a Cycle

Teen sisters – Liberty Square, Miami

My sister and I were the first in our family to ever learn how to swim. Our mom never had the chance—she was scared of the water her whole life. We trained, got our WSI certification, and now we’re teaching other girls from our neighborhood. We’re breaking the cycle of fear with every lesson.
