Drowning Crisis
Every Second Counts. Every Lesson Saves a Life.
The Drowning Crisis
A Silent Epidemic That Takes Thousands of Lives
Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death—especially among children. It happens quickly, quietly, and far too often in communities without access to water safety education.
The Hard Facts
- Drowning is the #1 cause of death for children aged 1–4 in the U.S.
- 64% of Black children have little to no swimming ability, compared to 40% of white children.
- Most drownings happen in residential pools or open water, often within minutes.
- Lack of access, not lack of interest, is the biggest barrier to swim education.
These aren't just numbers
they're lives we can save.
What works:
- Early swim education (as young as 1 year)
- Supervision around water
- Teaching parents and children how to respond in emergencies
- Providing accessible programs in at-risk communities
How we can prevent Drawing Crisis
The good news: Drowning is preventable. Access to swimming lessons and water safety training drastically reduces the risk of drowning.
